    Yes, that song has some of the most amazing lyrics... "I was waiting for a crosstown train in the london underground when it struck me."

      i'm totally a sucker for their lyrics. ^_^ especially this song and brand new colony.
      "i'll be the fire escapr, bolted to the ancient brick... where you will sit and contemplate your day."
      these boys make me happy.

        "...the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss they're perfectly aligned..."

        Just beautiful. I think the depth of these words is brought out even more on Iron & Wine's accoustic cover.

          so i only just got this album but i've listened so many times i know most of the words to the songs. his lyrics are really special, meaningful and clever, up there with stephin merritt and jeff mangum (neutral milk hotel).

            Not sure how many of you have checked out the latest Death Cab For Cutie album, transatlanticism. I love the way Ben Gibbard writes. It could be just a journal entry, but it always flows with the music so well.
            Anyways if you haven't heard that album yet, i highly recommend it. And with all the favorite lyrics posting, I figured I'd post my favorite song from that album. It's a short and quiet song, but damn it's very dramatic.. A short video for it would be great. The lyrics, piano and the very ambient background makes you feel like you're driving down a dark dirt road, out in the country. Here, let Ben explain.
            ================================================
            Passenger Seat

            i roll the window down
            and then begin to breathe in
            the darkest country road
            and the strong scent of evergreen
            from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

            then looking upwards
            i strain my eyes and try
            to tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
            from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

            "do they collide?"
            i ask and you smile.
            with my feet on the dash
            the world doesn't matter.

            when you feel embarrassed then i'll be your pride
            when you need directions then i'll be the guide
            for all time.
            for all time.
            ================================================

        My friend is about 5'2" and she's been partial to the line:
        I'll be the platform shoes, undo what heredities done to you. You won't have to reach to look into my eyes." She then decided that song was for her.

          Clark Gable line is brillant -- I personally savour any line out of DC Sleeps Alone Tonight -- 'I was the one worth leaving' -- what an interesting way to put it.

            5'2" and half....
            You got the biggest grin on your face when you'd hear that line -- it now always makes me think of you....
